Justice minister “tops” visit to Shanghai

At the start of her official trip to China, Swiss Justice Minister Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf has taken part in a ceremony at the Swiss Pavilion for Expo 2010 in Shanghai.

Widmer-Schlumpf stressed the importance of Expo 2010’s theme of “Better City, Better Life” against the background of the challenge of achieving sustainable urban development.

The topping off event – placing the final beam on the roof of the pavilion – was attended by Chinese authorities and more than 200 invited guests including a Swiss parliamentary delegation.

Widmer-Schlumpf will also meet the mayor of Shaghai during her visit, and hold talks with the city’s Swiss business community.

She will travel to Beijing for the second part of her trip and meet her Chinese counterpart, Wu Aiying, and other government officials on October 26.

Bilateral relations, in particular migration issues, security and crime, will top the agenda.
