Slalom specialist Ivica Kostelic of Croatia has won the skiing World Cup super-combined event in the Swiss resort of Wengen ahead of Switzerland’s Carlo Janka.

Aksel Lund Svindal of Norway came third, while Swiss skiers Beat Feuz and Silvan Zurbriggen finished in position 12 and 14 respectively after the short downhill and slalom competitions on Friday.

Janka, the defending World Cup overall champion, was runner-up in the downhill race and finished eighth in the slalom. Kostelic was fifth in the downhill and recorded best time in the slalom.

The Croat, currently World Cup overall standings leader, also won last weekend’s slalom in Adelboden.

The prestigious Lauberhorn downhill race is scheduled for Saturday and the slalom event for Sunday in Wengen.
