Switzerland's Michel Kratochvil will play in his second ATP tournament semi-final of the year in Shanghai. The Swiss beat his quarter-final opponent Edwin Kempes after three sets.
The first two sets of the match were closely fought as each went to a tie break.
The Swiss, who is ranked number three in the $400,000 tournament, lost the first set 6-7 (4-7) but managed to equalise the score by winning the next. The second set also went to a tie break, which Kratochvil took convincingly 7-1.
The third and decisive set went Kratochvil's way. He conceded just one game to Holland's Kempes.
Kratochvil is due to face Kenneth Carlsen from Denmark on Saturday.
