The powerful pairing had a mixed day on Saturday, losing their first match but winning their second, which was enough to put them through to the semi-finals.

"Today we went from strength to strength in each game we played and I'm now confident that we can make it through to the final," said Paul Laciga at the close of play.

In their first match the Laciga brothers lost to America's Wong/Metzger pairing who beat them by two games to one in a closely fought match. The Swiss duo got off to a good start by winning their first game 19-21 but then went on to lose the next two, 21-19, 15-11.

This put them into the loser's play-off table where they went head-to-head with the Australian duo, Slack/Novosel. The Swiss pair proved to be the stronger of the two beating the down-under duo 23-21, 21-15 and booking their place in the next round.

The Lacigas will face Brazilian's Ricardo/Loiola in the semi-finals, confident in the knowledge that the Swiss pair beat their South-American opponents in a tournament in Tenerife a couple of weeks ago.
