Lamon wins first Swiss title

Five months after her Olympic silver medal heroics, Swiss teenager Sophie Lamon has picked up her first national fencing title following an emphatic win in the women's épée final over her Sydney team-mate, Diana Romagnoli.

The 16-year-old schoolgirl from canton Valais appears to be in top form at the moment. Her 15-7 win over Romagnoli follows third-place finishes at the last two junior world championships.

Lamon’s path to the title was made somewhat smoother by the absence of the third member of the Swiss Olympic team, Gianna Hablützel-Bürki, who pulled out injured shortly before the Bern tournament.
