Swiss teenager Lara Gut has failed in her bid to win a third medal at the skiing World Championships in the French resort of Val d'Isère.

Gut, aged 17, was eliminated in the first run of Thursday's Giant Slalom after she missed a gate half way down the course.

Kathrin Hoelzl of Germany won the race - her first World Championship success.

Gut said after the race that she had been feeling weak after having spent the last two days in bed with gastric flu.

Earlier in Val d'Isère, she took silver in the downhill and super-combined events.

Other Swiss women skiers also disappointed in the Giant Slalom event. Of the four competing, only Andrea Dettling made it through to the second run, finishing way back in 22nd place overall.
