Leuthard meets Zhukov

Economics Minister Doris Leuthard has been discussing economic ties with Russia's Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Zhukov.

The meeting, in Zurich, focused on trade and investment issues as well as Russian candidacy for the World Trade Organization, said an economics ministry statement.

Relations between the European Free Trade Association (Efta), of which Switzerland is a member, and Moscow were also discussed.

Both ministers also attended the 7th Russia Economic and Financial Forum in Zurich, where Leuthard also gave a speech.

According to the economics ministry, Russia is an important economic partner for Switzerland, with a trading volume of more than SFr4.5 billion ($4.51 billion) in 2007. Swiss exports to Russia rose by 30 per cent in the same year to SFr2.9 billion.

Switzerland is one of the most important foreign investors in Russia.
