Care worker abused more than 100 victims

A 54-year-old Swiss man has admitted sexually abusing 114 children or disabled adults in care homes in Switzerland over a 29-year period.

Most of the victims were mentally and physically disabled, the justice authorities of canton Bern, where the majority of the crimes were committed, revealed on Tuesday.

The man was employed as a care worker in eight homes in Switzerland and one in Germany since 1982.

The statute of limitations applies in three quarters of the cases but the man can be prosecuted for the remaining 33 cases.

The police investigation was launched last year after two of the alleged victims reported abuse by the unnamed man. He has been in prison since April 2010.

“Several cases involve children, among them children of nursing home employees,” police said. The youngest victim was one year old at the time of the crime.
