First Swiss victory at Geneva riding competition
Beat Mändli has become Switzerland's first rider to win an event at the CSI-W competition in Geneva.
The sportsman from Thurgau charged to victory on Friday riding Lord Z, a horse whose previous owner was the former world champion, Franke Sloothaak.
Currently ranked eighth in the world, Mändli garnered 44 points (36″56), finishing ahead of Alexandra Ledermann (44/37″22) and Marcus Ehning (44/37″42).
Mändli’s win was just what Swiss fans had been waiting for at the four-day competition.
It came a day after a disappointing third place finish on the opening day in the steeplechase by Markus Hauri, the 1997 Swiss champion. Urs Fäh, the rider from Zürich, placed fourth in the steeplechase and the opening event.
