Hingis through to quarter-finals of Berlin tournament

The world's number one tennis player, Switzerland's Martina Hingis, is through to the quarter-finals of the WTA tournament in Berlin after she defeated Croatia's Silvija Talaja 7-6 (7-3), 6-3.

Hingis needed 55 minutes and a first set tie break to beat Talaja. It was the 12th straight win for the Swiss star in the $1.08 million German Open tennis tournament.

Hingis is now due to face the number five seed, Sandrine Testud of France.

On Monday, Hingis regained her world number one title from her American rival, Lindsay Davenport.
