Two Swiss female Olympic athletes have been nominated for the 2000 World Sport Awards, which are given out annually to honour athletes for outstanding achievement.

The triathlete, Brigitte McMahon, and the cross-country skier, Barbara Blatter, have both been nominated for this year’s awards.

McMahon, who won a gold medal in the triathlon at the Sydney Olympics this summer, is up against Simona Amanar from Romania, Julia Barsukova from Russia, and Andy von Grunsven and Leontien Zijlaard-van Morsel from Hungary.

In the extreme and adventure sports category, Blatter, who is an Olympic silver medallist in cross country skiing, is up against Angela Mudge from Great Britain, Paola Pezzo from Italy, Andrea Binning from Austria, and Fabiola da Silva from Brazil.

This year’s ceremony will take place at London’s Royal Hall on January 16.
