Parliament supports Swiss expatriates
Institutions representing the interests of the Swiss Abroad have been given greater financial guarantees by parliament.
The Senate on Monday followed the House of Representatives in approving in principle a proposal to enshrine in law the funding of expatriate organisations and the Swiss Review magazine.
It also foresees financial support for Swiss who find themselves in emergency situations while abroad.
Last week, the Senate rejected a proposal to grant the Swiss Abroad seats in parliament.
There are about 700,000 expatriates living mainly in neighbouring European countries, but also in the United States.
