Public prioritise youth crime, study finds

Citizens appear to support more repression but also increased prevention efforts to combat juvenile delinquency.

An independent online survey found more than 70 per cent of respondents in favour of tougher penalties for underage delinquents.

A majority also called for a scrapping of tax breaks for the wealthy and for unified fiscal rates across the country, putting an end to cantonal tax autonomy.

Respondents also back proposals to save energy through technological innovation and to increase the number of crèches.

The annual online survey – the fifth of its kind – is based on nearly 21,000 respondents questioned between October and January.

The group of students behind the survey has the backing of the five main political parties as well as commercial sponsors.
