Suter secures second podium place of season

Switzerland’s Fabienne Suter has finished third in the women’s World Cup downhill race in St Moritz on Saturday.

The 25-year-old completed the course on the Corviglia piste in a time of 1:42.27, following 0.96 seconds behind the winner Maria Riesch of Germany. Ingrid Jacquemod of France was second.

Reisch’s win ended the season’s perfect streak for Lindsey Vonn of the United States. Vonn had won the first five downhills of the season but finished fifth, losing speed when her skis struck a hole in the snow almost causing her to fall.

It was the second podium place for Suter who a week earlier finished second in the super-G in Cortina. She is ranked seventh in the World Cup overall standings.

“I have a lot of confidence in myself. For the [Olympic] Games I know that I have the chance to pick up medals in several disciplines,” she said after the race. and agencies
