Swiss get tough draw in Davis Cup
Switzerland have been drawn against the United States in next year's Davis Cup tennis tournament.
Having successfully retained their position in the top league by beating Belarus, the Swiss could hardly have been given a tougher tie.
The match will be played in Switzerland in February, but it is not clear exactly where it will be staged.
Both the US and Switzerland have in recent years often played without their top stars. Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi have been missing from the US squad, while Marc Rosset – the former Swiss captain – has been left out after disputes with the Tennis Association in Switzerland.
However, Rosset has made it clear he wants to play again for the Davis Cup team. “Not just because the opponents are the US, but in other matches,” he said.
The last time the two countries met in the Davis Cup eight years ago, Switzerland shocked the US with a 3-1 victory.
The US have won most Davis Cup trophies with 31, but their last victory was in 1995.
