Usain Bolt defies Lausanne weather
Triple Olympic champion Usain Bolt defied heavy rain and a head wind to achieve a time of 19.59 seconds in the 200 metres at Lausanne's Athletissima on Tuesday.
The Jamaican was only one hundredth of a second outside this year’s world best, set by Tyson Gay of the US in May. He himself holds the world record of 19 seconds 30.
His achievement came despite the fact that he was running into a wind of 0.9 m/s, while Gay set his time with a favourable wind of 1.3 m/s.
Meanwhile, Bolt’s fellow-countryman, Asafa Powell, won the 100 metres in 10.7 seconds, 31 hundredths of a second behind this year’s best, set by Bolt.
