Weekend ice hockey action leaves Davos on top
Swiss ice hockey league leaders, Davos, finished the weekend where they began it: at the top of the table.
Davos ended the weekend nine points clear of their nearest rivals, Ambri, after notching up a 5-2 Saturday night victory over Fribourg.
Second-placed Ambri failed to seize the opportunity on Sunday to make any inroad on Davos’ lead, when the team only managed to secure a 2-2 draw at home to seventh-placed Lugano.
Rapperswil-Jona completed a busy weekend of ice hockey action. After Saturday’s 2-2 draw away to Bern, the team had less than 24 hours to recharge their batteries before facing Chur at home.
A convincing 6-2 win pushed Rapperswil up to 10th position, but the team still remain on course to take part in this season’s relegation play-outs.
Sunday also saw Bern jump two places up the table and thus take a decisive step away from the relegation zone. A 1-3 away win over fourth-placed Zug saw the team move up to fifth place.
In Sunday’s other league tie, a crowd of just under 6,000 saw Fribourg draw 3-3 at home to the Zurich Lions.
