Lions stay on top

Ambri players celebrate their resounding 5-1 victory over Kloten Keystone

Switzerland's top four teams in the ice hockey first division extended their lead on the rest of the table in Friday's matches with Ambri achieving an impressive 5-1 win against Kloten and Lions extending their lead at the top.

There were few surprises in Friday’s division one ice hockey fixtures with Ambri taking an extra point for their third position in the league table, while Zug steamrollered Rapperswil, 6-1.

Lions were given a one-point lead on the others after winning away against La Chaux-de-Fonds, 2-3. Fribourg, however, rocketed from 10th to sixth place in the table after a comfortable away win against Langnau Tigers, 2-4.

There was no change for the fortunes of Davos and Chur who also clashed on Friday: Davos remain in fourth position and Chur stay at the bottom, having lost 2-1 to their hosts.

In Saturday’s matches Berne take on the Tigers, Chur host La Chaux-de-Fonds, Davos travel to Fribourg, while Ambri battle against Rapperswil. The highlight of Saturday’s action will be a close-fought Derby between Lions and Zug.
