The two teams were tied 2-2 at the end of normal time. Fribourg missed a golden opportunity to win the game with just seconds to go, but the chance went begging and the match moved into overtime where Lugano snatched a quick winner.
If Fribourg had put away their chance, they would have pulled the best of seven series back to 3-2. As it was, Lugano's overtime winner clinched the series 4-1.
Lugano will now face Bern in the semi finals which start next week. Kloten and Zurich Lions meet in the other semi final.
