FC Lugano have moved up to top spot in the Swiss football league, for 24 hours at least, following a 3-1 home win over Neuchâtel Xamax.

Friday’s match remained true to the formbook, bringing Lugano their fifth home win of the season and continuing Neuchâtel’s wait for their first victory on the road.

Lugano had to come from behind after seeing one of their former players, Eddy Barea, put Xamax ahead in the 23rd minute. But within four minutes, the scores were level again with Bastida grabbing the equaliser.

It wasn’t until midway through the second half that the home side finally took the lead, Joël Magnin making it 2-1. Just two minutes remained when Caico made sure of victory for Lugano by scoring the team’s third goal of the night.

Lugano are now one point ahead of FC Zurich and two clear of Servette and Young Boys, all of three of whom have played a game less than Roberto Morinini’s men.
