Mobility drives Geneva car show
The latest innovations in the car industry will be on public display from March 7 to 17 at the International Motor Show in Geneva.
“Crossroads of Mobility” is the theme of this year’s show – the 72nd edition – and is expected to attract around 700,000 visitors to Geneva’s exhibition centre, Palexpo. Usually, nearly half of the visitors come from abroad to attend the show.
Some 250 exhibitors will present about 900 makes of cars. The show is divided into different sections, including motorcars, special bodywork, converted cars, equipment and accessories, garage equipment, electric vehicles, miscellaneous products and entertainment.
Daimler-Chrysler plans to unveil its new Mercedes CLK class coupe in Geneva. The manufacturer boasts that the new car has a more powerful engine than current models yet uses six per cent less fuel.
The French company, Renault, will premiere its new “Espace Concept”. Renault is taking its successful Espace minivan off the assembly line by the end of the year, and will present a prototype of its replacement.
The Geneva show is one of the most prestigious in the world, despite the fact that it takes place in a country without its own car industry.
