Mountain rescue on top of the Säntis

The Säntis peak is one of the most popular lookout points in Switzerland Keystone

A special exhibition on mountain rescue is opening in the station at the top of the Säntis peak in northeastern Switzerland. The show is being accompanied by a collection of paintings by members of the "guild of Swiss mountain artists".

The exhibition (which runs from May 18 to October 21) is being put on by the Swiss Air Rescue service, Rega, together with the Swiss Alpine Club. The organisations want to give the public a glimpse into the often daring and dangerous world of mountain rescue.

Accompanying the exhibition will be a collection of paintings of artists’ impressions of the Säntis – at 2,500 metres above sea level – the highest mountain in northeastern Switzerland. Each of the more than 60 members of the artists’ guild is making a contribution to the exhibition. The paintings can also be purchased.

A separate showing of photographs, “Tibet – roof of the world”, is running simultaneously on the Säntis. For people interested in Tibetan culture, additional events, including talks and concerts, are scheduled to be held in late summer (August 25 to September 9) under the patronage of the Swiss-Tibetan Friendship Society.
