Solo Guitar / Late Romantic / Folkloric. In his time, Agustín Barrios Mangoré was a much neglected guitarist and composer. This Paraguayan contemporary of modernistic Spanish six-string shining light Andres Segovia had a lifelong preference for music of the 19th century and Amerindian folk styles. Nowadays his intricate, original works range among the most iconic in classical guitar literature. Prominent Swiss guitarist Michael Erni from Olten took up the challenge of recording an all Barrios Mangoré recital and the results can be viewed as a major revelation. The interweaved low and middle register voices sound with crystalline accuracy, whereas the perpetual tremolo passages add a certain thrill to the entire performance.
