Gruyère cheese is getting a new home

Fans of the characteristic Swiss cheese Gruyère will be able to learn more about (and taste) it in a new development planned for the town of the same name. (RTS, swissinfo.ch)

The cheese making process can currently been seen through a special show window in a visitor centre in the medieval town, but it is going to be renovated.

The demonstration cheese factory was opened in 1969. In 2000 it was given an overhaul and rebranded as ‘La Maison du Gruyère’. The cheese factory is equipped with a visitors’ gallery that allows people to view the hand-made production, and see exhibitions about the cheese.

‘La Maison du Gruyère’ is also the headquarters of the ‘Interprofession du Gruyère’, an association that brings together the milk producers and cheesemakers who produce Gruyère AOP and ensure the cheese’s protected term of origin, a certification that guarantees quality, and that a product was made in the place from which it originates.
