Imperial Tiger Orchestra: Mercato
Ethiopian-Afro. The Imperial Tiger Orchestra is a septet from Geneva, formed on occasion of a music-inspired journey to discover traces of 1970s Ethiopian-Afro music under the skies of the Horn of Africa. Their excursion resulted in an unexpected invitation to the 2009 edition of the Addis Abeba Musiques Ethiopiennes Festival, where they became the event's big sensation. With Mercato they have finally released their debut album, which explains impressively their success among African aficionados. These are heartfelt interpretations of classics from Ethiopia's musical golden age during the 70s. The funky, hypnotic pieces shine in new splendour thanks to unusual, distorted and synthetic sounds.
