The race took place for the 73rd time in Frauenfeld.
The top event in this typically Swiss sport is run over the marathon distance of 42 kilometres. It developed from a purely military exercise in the 1930s to a sport discipline in its own right. Participants wear battle dress and carry at least 6.2kg, including a back pack and military-issue rifle. Civilian footwear is allowed.
