The sport of running with a rifle has a long tradition in Switzerland. This content was published on December 10, 2007 - 10:32
The top event in this typically Swiss sport is run over the marathon distance of 42 kilometres. It developed from a purely military exercise in the 1930s to a sport discipline in its own right. Participants wear battle dress and carry at least 6.2kg, including a back pack and military-issue rifle. Civilian footwear is allowed.
