Hundreds of people are reported to have been killed in the bloody crackdown on dissenters in Myanmar following last month’s coup.

A military junta seized power from the democratically elected government of Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi, claiming that her party had won the November 2020 election fraudulently. The junta imposed a state of emergency. In protest, Switzerland suspended all further payments related to development cooperation in Myanmar

The coup unleashed a storm of protests in Myanmar. These scenes, shot in Yangon, show police shooting at protestors, funeral ceremonies for dead demonstrators and barricades being erected to protect protestors from the security forces.
