podcast Out into the cold – Davos’ fresh air cure

iTunes MP3 file

Davos, in the southeast of Switzerland became a haven for people suffering from tuberculosis in the 1800s and early 1900s, as it was thought the fresh air and sunshine could cure people.

Meet a man who was treated in one of Davos’ sanatoriums as a teenager, and go behind the doors of an ex-luxury sanatorium, located high above the town, where patients would eat 13-course lunches and spend hours every day soaking up the sun’s rays.
