NBA’s Tony Parker drives it home to Vaud

Add Tony Parker, a professional basketball player for the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs, to the list of famous people who own property in Switzerland.

The French national and starting point guard bought a luxury holiday flat in Mont Pèlerin, canton Vaud, above Vevey, sponsors behind the apartment complex announced on Tuesday.

The residence, which sits in the UNESCO vineyards of Lavaux and overlooks Lake Geneva, “has the most beautiful view that I’ve ever had the opportunity to see,” Parker said in a statement released by the Swiss Development Group.

No price was made public for the purchase, an apartment in the Hôtel du Parc, a large hotel built in 1906 that is being converted into 24 units that each measure between 200- and 690-square-metres.

In 2001, Parker became the first French player to make it to the NBA, where he has since helped the Spurs win three championship titles. In 2007, he married Eva Longoria, one of the stars of the series Desperate Housewives.

Parker joins people like Tina Turner, Phil Collins, Boris Becker and Roman Polanski who own property in the country. He expects to move in sometime in 2012.
