Nestlé bids goodbye to four bourses

Japanese investors will no longer be able to buy Nestlé stocks on their home bourse Keystone

The Swiss food giant, Nestlé, is to withdraw its share listings from four stock exchanges because the volume of trading in its stock is so low.

The company, based in Vevey, said on Thursday that it would no longer be listing on the Amsterdam, Brussels, Tokyo and Vienna bourses.

In a statement, Nestlé said: “The volume of shares traded [on those bourses] is very small… less than one per cent of the total number of Nestlé shares traded”.

It added that the “American Depositary Receipts” programme in the United States, which are based on Nestlé shares and sponsored by JP Morgan, would not be affected by the decision.

Nestlé will continue to list on the stock exchanges of Zurich, Frankfurt, Paris and London.
