No Monaco points for Sauber
Swiss Formula One racing team, Sauber Petronas, have failed to win any points at the Monaco Grand Prix. David Coulthard claimed victory in the famous race for the second time.
Star Sauber driver, Germany’s Nick Heidfeld, finished eighth ahead of Britain’s Eddie Irvine.
Heidfeld’s team-mate, Brazilian Felipe Massa, never finished the 3,370 kilometre circuit through Monte Carlo. Massa crashed out of the race after completing 63 laps.
Coulthard held off Schumacher
Britain’s Coulthard managed to stay ahead of his German rival, Michael Schumacher, throughout the entire race.
Coulthard’s McLaren Mercedes was second on the grid but overtook poleholder Juan Pablo Montoya before heading into the first curve.
Montoya dropped out with engine trouble on the 46th lap, allowing Schumacher through to challenge Coutlhard, who also won the race in 2000.
“I had to keep pushing, just one mistake and you’re taken out. Fortunately I didn’t make any mistake,” Coulthard said.
Schmacher’s younger brother, Ralf, finished third and Jarno Trulli came in fourth.
