Norway break Swiss run of victories

Switzerland’s unbroken run of victories at the ice hockey world championships in Germany ended on Monday in a 2:3 defeat by Norway.

However, the Swiss team, who have defeated not only Latvia and Italy but also hockey giants Canada and the Czech Republic in the current championships, are already guaranteed a place in the quarter finals.

The Norwegians scored their first goal in the 4th minute, and again in the 7th. Switzerland responded a minute later, but the Norwegians took score to 3:1 in the 19th. It was not until the 58th minute that the Swiss got the puck in the net again.

Switzerland meet Sweden on Tuesday for the last match of the round, where much more is at stake. If the Swiss win, they will come out top of their group and meet the bottom team of the other pool.

A defeat by Sweden will put them in second place.
