Overseas participation – up or down?
Susan Dzieduszycka-Suinat, President and CEO of the US Vote Foundation and Overseas Vote Foundation, doubts new technological changes to overseas voting will lead to dramatic improvements in voter participation.
“I don’t think we’ll see that. The number of overseas and military voters participating is not increasing in the way we expected with all these improvements in technology,” she told swissinfo.ch.
Now all US citizens can receive their blank ballots electronically.
She said while some new aspects were easier, online voting was “confusing”.
“New solutions bring new problems. Voters don’t want to have to register or request anything. They just want to vote and for their government to know who they are, where they are and to give them a ballot. That’s the way it is.”
Her agency plans to do a post-election survey on the new overseas electronic voting changes and efforts to streamline the process.
