The eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) – which range from halving extreme poverty to halting the spread of HIV/AIDS and providing universal primary education, all by the target date of 2015 – form a blueprint agreed to in 2000 by all the world’s countries and all the world’s leading development institutions.
The MDGs have remained the world’s overarching development framework for the past 15 years. This framework is set to expire in 2015 and be replaced by a set of long-term sustainable development goals. This United Nations chart presents the final assessment of progress towards selected key targets relating to each goal. It is based on statistics available as of June 2015.
