Swiss swimmer, Flavia Rigamonti, has won bronze in the finals of 800m freestyle in the world short course championships in Moscow.

Rigamonti completed the 800m course in 8’23”38, over six seconds off the Swiss record she set in December, when she won the European championships in Anvers. Thursday’s win brought the Ticino swimmer her ninth major medal.

The Chinese swimmer, Chen Hua, took gold, finishing in 8’16”34, ahead of the Russian, Irina Oufmitseva.

It was an otherwise disappointing day for Swiss swimmers, who failed to make it into the final stages of any event.

Dominique Diezi swam below her personal best in both the women’s 100m freestyle and 50m butterfly, placing 24th and 20th in respective heats.

Christoph Bühler and Karel Novy missed the quarterfinals of the men’s 50 m freestyle sprint, while the Swiss men’s 4 by 200m Relay team came in ninth during heats, missing a place in the final.

In the men’s 400m medley Swiss Platel Yves placed 14th in his heats.
