Historic ad promotes traffic law

In the 1930s the Swiss Federal Railways was plagued by high budget deficits. One government proposal was to introduce a new law restricting the distance covered by cars and lorries to 30 kilometres and to force long-distance transport onto the railways.

This promotional advertisement was shown in Swiss cinemas before the advent of television. In 1935 a large majority of voters rejected the government’s scheme. (Filmwochenschau/Memoriav/swissinfo.ch)
