Safina beats Schnyder at Madrid tennis masters

Patty Schnyder, Switzerland's number-one woman tennis player, has been eliminated from the Madrid Open masters in Spain.

Schnyder, who ranks 20th in the world, lost to number-one ranked Dinara Safina of Russia, 4-6, 2-6 in Saturday’s semifinals.

Safina will advance to the final round on Sunday, when she faces 11th-seed Caroline Wozniacki from Denmark on clay.

Saturday’s lost was Schnyder’s fourth in a row to Safina. In the past two weeks the Swiss has beaten three top-ten players at matches in Rome and Madrid, including Serena Williams, Nadia Petrowa and Jelena Jankovic.
