Schnyder through to Sarasota Open quarter-finals

Patty Schnyder has found form after recent defeats Keystone Archive

Patty Schnyder has made the quarter-final of the Sarasota Open in Florida after beating Slovakian Henrieta Nagyova 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.

The win appears to confirm that the Basel-based Swiss has shaken off the disappointment of her first round defeat in Key Biscayne last month, and is now gunning for the semi-finals of the clay court tournament.

The 23-year-old will face the tournament’s top seed, Yugoslav Jelena Dokic, in the semi-final.

Sarasota will be Schnyder’s third quarter-final appearance this year. She is currently 34th in the Sanex WTA rankings.

Also on Thursday, Switzerland’s Marie-Gaiane Mikaelian progressed through to the second round of the Porto Open in Portugal, after beating Ana Nogueira, 6-2, 3-6, 6-0.
