Science
Switzerland is among the top performers for innovation in science and technology, spending more than 2.9 per cent of Gross Domestic Product. Expenditure on research and development (R&D) and the number of patents filed per million inhabitants are high compared with most countries. Multinationals, especially in the chemical and machinery sectors, account for three quarters of domestic R&D spending.
