Servette Geneva have been handed a tough tie in the second round of the UEFA Cup after being drawn against one of the competition's former winners, Real Zaragoza of Spain. This content was published on September 28, 2001 - 13:07
The side from north east Spain won the UEFA Cup in 1964 and also enjoyed more recent European success, when they beat English giants Arsenal in the final of the 1995 Cup Winners' Cup.
Zaragoza cruised through the first round of this year's UEFA Cup with a 5-1 aggregate win over Silkeborg of Denmark.
The Swiss league leaders might take heart, though, from the Spanish team's performances on the home front this season. With just one win from their opening four matches, Zaragoza are currently 13th in Spain's Primera Liga.
Servette booked their place in the second round on Thursday with a 2-1 aggregate win over Slavia Prague of the Czech Republic.
Last year's Swiss Cup winners were joined in Friday's second round draw by Grasshoppers Zurich and St Gallen, who both saw off teams from the Romanian capital Bucharest on Thursday.
German opposition for St Gallen
St Gallen beat former European champions Steaua Bucharest and have now been rewarded with a second round tie against German side Freiburg, currently tenth in the Bundesliga.
As an unseeded team, St Gallen appeared to have come off well in the draw from their group, which also included the likes of Valencia, Fiorentina and Bordeaux.
Grasshoppers go Dutch
Grasshoppers, by contrast, may consider themselves a little unfortunate after being handed a potentially tricky tie against Dutch side Twente Enschede.
Currently ninth in the Dutch top division, Twente are clearly not among the country's most illustrious names. But with Grasshoppers' other potential opponents including teams from the weaker Norwegian, Bulgarian, Croatian and Israeli leagues, the side from Holland could yet provide the reigning Swiss champions with a problem or two.
