Simon Ammann vows to win Four Hills event

Swiss ski jumper Simon Ammann has given a clear warning to other participants in the Four Hills event, which opens on Tuesday at Oberstdorf in Germany.

“I will win the tournament,” the 29-year-old Ammann told journalists ahead of the European classic that takes place in both Germany and Austria.

During his career, Ammann has won just about everything the sport has to offer, including a World Cup title and four Olympic gold medals, but the Four Hills title has eluded him.

“I’ve never been so open about wanting to win an event. I started to say so already in the summer,” Ammann said.

After Oberstdorf, the ski jumpers move on to the German resort of Garmisch-Partenkirchen before travelling on to Innsbruck and Bischofshofen in Austria.

As journalists have pointed out, Ammann has struggled to find form this season and he has also been troubled by a back injury that has hampered his training.
