St Gallen have failed to take the lead in Switzerland's first division football league after only managing a 1-1 draw at Grasshoppers Zurich. Lugano stay in top spot.

Both goals were scored in the second half. Stéphane Chapuisat scored for Grasshoppers in the 75th minute with Ivan Dal Santo equalising two minutes later.

Basel smashed Aarau 5-2 with André Wiederkehr and Benjamin Huggel scoring two goals each for ^the home side.

In another match on Sunday, Lausanne beat Sion 1-0.

Neuchâtel Xamax are still bottom of the league. Their 3-1 win over FC Zurich made little difference to their standing.

On Saturday, Lucerne lost 2-0 at home to Servette Geneva, and now find themselves second from bottom – and one of the two teams already facing the play-offs.

Lucerne missed a number of good chances at home to Servette, but fell to goals by Petrow and Rey.

There is now speculation about the future of trainer, Andy Egli, as Lucerne face their first play-offs since the 1996/7 season.

Struggling Yverdon drew 1-1 at home to league leaders Lugano on Saturday. They are third from bottom, but still have an outside chance of avoiding the play-offs.
