Storm claims victims in Switzerland

A storm front that claimed two lives on Thursday wreaked more havoc across large parts of the country in the early hours of Friday.

The two people, attending an event in Risch, canton Zug, organised by the pharmaceutical company Roche, died after being struck by a falling tree.

Hail stones the size of ping pong balls pelted canton Zurich. Torrential downpours followed the storm early on Friday.

Southern Switzerland received the most rain, with 115mm recorded in Lugano in a 24-period.

Areas north of the Alps registered between 50 and 60mm.
