Rebecca Cooke of Britain won the bronze with 4:10.8.

Meanwhile, in the men's events, Switzerland's Karel Novy won bronze in the 100 metres freestyle. The gold went to Sweden's Stefan Nystrand, while Denis Pimankov of Russia won the silver.
