Suhr beat Schaffhausen in second play-off final game

Suhr have beaten Kadetten Schaffhausen 26-22 to take a two game lead over their opponents in the play-off best-of-five finals.

In front of a sell-out crowd the reigning champions took an important step towards securing their second title in a row. Goals from Robbie Kostadinovic in the first seven minutes of the second half gave Suhr an invaluable four goal lead over the home side.

Schaffhausen were, however, able to cut the difference in the 59th minute to just two goals. But two more goals from the visitors were enough to give Suhr victory.

Schaffhausen’s manager Peter Bruppacher had harsh words for his players after the match. “Our passes were just too sloppy to compete with a team of champions such as Suhr,” he complained.

However, Suhr’s impressive performance was overshadowed by a red card handed out to their controversial winger, Carlos Lima, after some heavy tackling on his Schaffhausen markers.

It is not yet clear whether Lima, who has already been banned from four matches for verbal insults, will miss Monday’s third play-off match, at which Suhr will be hoping to wrap up the finals.

A judicial panel at the Swiss Handball Federation will have to decide what impact Lima’s two red cards will have on his availability for forthcoming fixtures.
