Switzerland's hopes of reaching next year's European basketball Championships are all but over after the national team were beaten 92-67 by Latvia in Riga on Saturday.

The team are currently fourth in their group and only the two top sides go through to next year’s finals in Turkey.

Switzerland have just three qualifying games remaining. On Wednesday Renato Carretoni’s men face a tough home match against the group leaders Croatia on Wednesday. The Balkan side have won all six of their matches so far, including a 93-53 hammering of the Swiss.

So far Hungary and England are second and third placed respectively.

The Swiss side were hoping to qualify for the finals of the European championships for the first time in 46 years.
