Swiss cabinet goes old school in its new photo

The Swiss cabinet has revealed its official group portrait for 2011. Unlike some of the modern looks in recent years, this one is quite traditional in style.

In a nod to the first cabinet photo, taken in 1993, the seven cabinet members, plus Federal Chancellor Corina Casanova, are posed in front of their meeting room. In contrast to then, women now make up the majority of the Swiss cabinet.

In 1993 Ruth Dreifuss, later the first female president, was the only woman in the photo. This year the holder of the rotating presidential post is Micheline Calmy-Rey.

Some 70,000 copies of the photo are available for the asking; back in 1993, only 1,000 were initially printed.

Photos can be picked up at the parliament building or ordered online.
