Swiss cyclist wins Lausanne exhibition race by a whisker
The Swiss cyclist, Daniel Schnider, is the overall winner of the exhibition race, "A Travers Lausanne", finishing the 6.85 kilometre stretch against the clock in 26 minutes and 50 seconds.
Schnider came out on top by achieving the best time in the second stage of the race. But in the first stage, Laurent Dufaux came first.
The contest is split up into two legs between Ouchy and Sauvabelin. Cyclists had to negotiate steep ascents through the hilly streets of Lausanne, before finishing on the northern edge of the city.
The star-studded cycling race was staged just six days after Lausanne hosted a day in the world’s biggest race, the Tour de France.
Schnider, who is from Lucerne finished a third of a second ahead of his compatriot, Oscar Camenzind. Hot on the heels of Camenzind was Laurent Dufaux, who followed the two leaders by just one second.
Other Swiss cyclists in the top 10 included Armin Meier in fourth place, Stéphane Richter in fifth, Sven Montgomery in sixth and Niki Aebersold in eighth place.
Beat Zberg made a big comeback appearance at this year’s “A Travers Lausanne” but could only manage a tenth place finish. Zberg had not ridden in a race since his early exit from the “Tour du Pays Basque”.
