The weather may have been tropical, but it seems the sunshine was better suited to the Gstaad beach volleyball world tour tournament than the Swiss entrants.

Both the men and women failed to qualify for the semi-finals.

However it was a good day for the United States women's pairing of Walsh and May who made it through to the finals and beat Brazil's Adriana Behar and Selda to take home the winners trophy.

The down-under duo of Pottharst and Cook came third after beating the other female Brazilian pairing of Alexandra and Monica.

In the men's games, Heyer and Egger looked to be Switzerland's best hope after they qualified for the quarter-finals. But all Swiss hopes were dashed when they dived out to Americans Wong and Metzger.

The Gstaad leg of the Beach Volleyball World Tour is Switzerland's biggest annual beach volleyball competition. Despite not having a coastline and therefore no sandy beaches, this particular brand of volleyball is popular with the Swiss.
